8.30.06 - Fatal Plane Crash to Eleuthera

The news photo from the crash site. Experts say the plane may have broken up in mid air

This is the only picture I could quickly find of the PawPaw House, Ward and Barbara's vacation home - the house is the backdrop behind all of us

Back when the training center looked like this, the Walters housed all the workers at the PawPaw House

This past Friday, business man Ward Walter and his wife Barbara lost control of their Mitsubishi MU-2B turbo-prop plane on their way to their vacation home in Eleuthera.

The Walters were significant contributors to the building and formation of the Eleuthera Bible Training Center. Not only in construction skills, but through their generosity of hospitality, they selflessly housed all the teams and staff that built EBTC before the Center was suitable to stay at.

Although Emily and I had never met the Walters we benefited from their generosity as well by staying at their vacation home during our last visit to Eleuthera. Their home was affectionately called the PawPaw House, and it saw years of EBTC staff under its roof.

Ward and Barbara were close with many of the missionaries from Eleuthera, and their loss will be felt throughout the island and with all those to whom they touched.

Plane crashes are a sobering reminder of the frailty of life and the reality of our sin-cursed world. May we honor the memories of Ward and Barbara by living such selfless lives after their example.
