July Newsletter '09

Greetings,

July has been full month - the heart of our summer team season. As the summer sun heated up so did our ministry involvement and planning. July brings us through the middle of our summer season and right up to the cusp of August preparations for the new school year come September..

Spotlights on Interns and Charlie

This month I wanted to take a moment and highlight some of the individuals who are crucial to CMA's success and ministry. Each year we pray the Lord gives us a team of interns who have a heart to serve Him and love others. We were NOT disappointed this year. Katrina, Heather, and Marie have served the ministry all summer long and they have become cherished co-workers and friends. From cleaning to cooking, serving and sharing these ladies have been a blessing. They have sacrificed their personal plans, time with family and friends, and the income that can be earned over the summer to come and give away what has been given to them, and we are so grateful.

Charlie Johns is our "Grounds" employee. He is a Haitian immigrant who lives in our little settlement. Every other month Charlie spends a week or two on his hands and knees in the hot sun to clear all our property of weeds, and brighten up the grounds to make the Training Center shine. In addition to his service to CMA, Charlie is a farmer and has a 10 acre farm where he grows primarily watermelons; if he's not on his hands and knees at the Center is working at his farm.

We are thankful for these individuals who serve with joy, thankfulness, and gladness, never complaining or seeking attention - they live with Christ-like humility to put others first.

Teams: Covenant Fellowship

We're actually right in the middle of a team as I write this, and there's two more coming in August. But this past July we enjoyed the Covenant Fellowship team from Stuart, FL - a team that has been investing in CMA for many years. They were extremely organized and prepared for their trip, in addition to that they had clear expectations about what their week would be like. It is such a blessing for us to have teams that repeat their trips and we're able to continue the relationships we began with them before.

Covenant Fellowship did a tremendous job of serving the island and ministry during their trip.

Update
Like I've mentioned above July has been a busy month. It has also been a difficult one for our fellow missionaries to Nicaragua, Carl and Kathy Most. Many of you have heard, the Most's home was robbed while they were traveling abroad. While many of their earthly possessions are now gone, they are remaining steadfast in our Lord's sovereignty and provision. Emily and I are doing good; we had a great 4th of July with staff, and we are looking forward to spending a week with Grandma Flunker and Aunt Kari, as both will be traveling to the island through August (look for updates soon). Thank you to all those who have been praying for us.

This coming August we will be finishing up our summer teams, and preparing for the fall classes. We still have many details to work out and we cherish your prayers as we continue to commit ourselves to the training and equipping of church leaders and pastors.
