7.04.09 - 4th of July

What a great 4th we had! Each year on July 4th all the Americans get together in our ministry on Eleuthera and we have a party celebration cook-out. This year's was a lot of fun.

Not only did we have a ton of good food, but we also had the largest staff present EVER for a 4th of July. The Foxes and their family, Mike and Shannan and their girls, us, and our 3 interns. When you're talking burgers, brats, and beans for dinner its always the more the merrier.

Emily did a great job decorating and organizing the party, with a lot of help from Shannan and the girls. The men basically oversaw the grill and tried to stay out of the way. We had 7 layer salad, baked beans, chips, berry pie, chocolate cake, 2 kinds of burgers and genuine American brats!

After dinner we played telephone-pictionary, which was a roar! Then we busted out some sparklers and had our own fireworks display. Amazingly, after the night was over the Lord put own his own "fireworks display" that would rival ALL of the largest cities put together, with blasts of lighting and thunder.

The kids all looked so great in their 4th outfits. I'm pretty sure dressing up is one of Emily's favorite parts of holidays, and yes the Flunker clan was all decked out in their jean overalls and red tops!

The 4th of July is kinda like our mid-year Thanksgiving. Those are the only two holidays where we intentionally all get together, eat, and play games. The fellowship really makes it feel very homey, even in another country - and it just gives us another reminder of all that we have to be thankful for!
