2.20.11 - Old Testament Survey with Jeff Larson

There is little better than having the privilege of teaching in the classroom, unless it is teaching with a friend. The past 2 weeks have completed our 4th course in James Cistern: Old Testament Survey. And it was our joy to host FBC Frisco's Mission Pastor and our good friends Jeff and Chandra Larson.

The survey courses are typically less "invasive" (if you can describe a class that way?), meaning they're more "sit-and-soak" as compared to our more participatory Inductive Bible Study courses or Preaching 101. But Jeff didn't let the students off too easy! Even though there was a lot of lecture, working through 39 books in 10 days, he focused the students each night on digging further on some specific texts using the tools of Observation, Interpretation, and Application.

Jeff's real strength in teaching is his highly skilled relational approachability. It was easy to see the students become instantly comfortable with Jeff's teaching style, and it was a joy to sit in class with him. You should just hear some of his jokes… :-)

Along with his contribution to teaching our evening classes, Jeff and I spent some time just catching up and discussing theology, (you know, like you did late nights in college… solving all the world's problems!). We had a great time together. Emily thoroughly enjoyed having Chandra here, as well as their baby Adaline, whom Micah still asks about!

All in all it was a fantastic time for the 2 weeks we spent with the Larsons. They are dear friends and cherished co-laborers for the Kingdom. We were certainly blessed to have them and fellowship with them during our OT course.
