2.26.08 - Emily's Birthday and Fondue

Emily turns 26 today! We had the best time celebrating her birthday with her parents in town. Don and Karolyn made their way to Texas for a few days and they stayed just long enough to eat ice cream cake (a Pfeister tradition).

Emily’s day started out with presents from me: a necklace with a little heart and the movie “The Jungle Book.” Although she had to work today as well, her room-moms all collected some extra money and threw her a mini-baby shower/birthday party! They also brought her lunch, so she really did have a great day at work.

Her parents were waiting at our apartment when she got home from work and as soon as I got done with class it was off to “The Mixing Pot” for dinner. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant and neither of us had ever been to one before. Don and Karolyn told us about how they would always eat with friends at fondue parties back in the 60’s.

The dinner had 4 courses: cheese and bread, salad, meats, and lots of chocolate! I of course got sick after the cheese course, but muscled my way through. Emily’s favorite was the chicken and the brownies smothered with fondue chocolate. Don and Karolyn even paid to get us 2 bars of chocolate fondue to make our own sometime later.

Finally, after everything it was back home for the traditional Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake (if you can believe that we could possible eat any more)! Matt and Sukey came down to wish Em a happy birthday too. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day special , for the cards, calls and gifts! “Happy Birthday Emily!”
