July Newsletter '14

Greetings,

If Facebook hasn’t informed you yet, we are proud to announce the birth of our 2nd child: Sadie Mae Flunker. She arrived June 10th via c-section and both mother and baby have been doing great since. This prayer letter comes from our baby visit back to the US and our short visits home.

“Sadie Bug our little Lady Bug”

It has been a blessing beyond words to hold this precious little one in our arms. I’m remembering all the little nuances with babies from way back when it was Micah’s turn: the little coos, the gas smirks, the hiccups, and oh that newborn baby smell (the good one, I mean).

Sadie is a name Emily and I have always loved, and Mae is my Grandmother’s middle name too: they are derivatives of Sarah and Mary.

I simply can’t get over the joy this little bundle gives. Every little squeak and wiggle just breaths life into me.

We truly thank God for answering our prayers and the prayers of our family and friends for a safe delivery and a healthy baby girl.

Micah’s Trip to Wisconsin

I’m very thankful to occasionally have the opportunity to take Micah up to his home in Wisconsin. There is certainly a part of him that resonates with the adventure of the north woods. Micah always tells us how much he loves the cold and the forests, and hunting and fishing.

On this trip up we got to play with my dad’s new tool/toy: a 4-wheeler! Micah also caught our limit of walleye which we ate the next day. He rode bikes with Meme and completely wore out all the fun that could be had back home.

Although it was a short trip, I’m glad that he continues to get exposure to the other side of the northern hemisphere’s climate. The backwoods won’t have anything on this Bahamian boy!

Update

Without a doubt the majority of our time has been in adjusting to baby sister. Micah has had his moments of jealousy, but he’s adjusting well, and has fully taken on the role of Sadie’s protective Big Brother. Perhaps in assisting with that calling, Micah has recently completed his first level of Taekwondo training. During his time home, I wanted Emily to put him into some kind of formal Martial Arts training. Around the house he has always been a ninja-of-sorts so it seemed fitting to show him the real discipline of the art. That, and it was a good outlet for learning coordination, respect, discipline, and focusing all that healthy “boy” energy. I’m very proud of his focus to his instructors and excelling to yellow belt a few months ahead of his class.

Emily is almost fully recovered from her surgery, and she has been doing an excellent job keeping Sadie on a tight schedule, monitoring her growth and progress, and all the while keeping the rest of us healthily “mothered.” She has been loving her time back with family and friends and sends a great big thank you to everyone for the showers and gifts, even coming in the mail as far as Alaska and Texas!

I’ve enjoyed our whirlwind trip back the US and we’re almost fully stocked to return to the island with a baby and U-haul trailer in tow. I especially enjoyed helping out a Grace Church’s Bible Camp as one of their “Special Detectives” for their VBS program. I’ll have more to write on the topic of our church’s support in our upcoming August prayer letter.
