March Newsletter '10

Greetings,

And a happy April 1st! We have been enjoying amazing weather this month, but we're starting to feel the "heat" of summer. This month we had some exciting happenings, including the start of Course #5, a hometown Unity Church Service, and the start of summer teams!

Team Season Kick Off

March saw the beginning of our team season with two repeat teams: Roswell Community and Indian Rocks Christian School. Both teams were well prepared for ministry and service, and both made some significant inroads into our ministry here on the island.

First Roswell Community partnered with one of our local churches and continued the work on our settlement clinic. Through their investment, we now have amazing community awareness towards assisting the work in the clinic. Indian Rocks spent their week in Rock Sound and were the first team to help build credibility with the local school by pouring a cement pad for school assemblies.

Both teams were fantastic, check out the articles and pictures:

Ministry in March

The 5th class in Rock Sound was spent digging into doctrine, specifically in the nature of God. Over the course of our two week class, the students encountered orthodox concepts to define God, and they were challenged to begin thinking seriously about defining what it is they actually believe about God the Father, Son and Spirit, and the Bible.

However, perhaps the most encouraging happening in March was our Community Unity Church Service which happened only last weekend. For months now, the new ministry team, JC Community Ministry Team, has been planning and advertising a settlement-wide service for the purpose of declaring ecclesiological unity among all the various churches in town. From the local's recollection, this is the first ever such service including ALL churches in town for the purpose of unification.

Evidently, it was such a momentous event that neighboring settlements have either planned or hosted their own unity services from inspiration of what is going on in JC. The service itself was very encouraging, and it was better than I had anticipated. Finding common ground among the local churches is hopefully the first step in addressing the needs of our community from a Biblical perspective. Please pray with us that the momentum will continue to encourage the churches to unite together, and hopefully this will become a Palm Sunday tradition.

Update
The past few days have been spent concentrating on our Lord's final week before Easter. It is for me the most intense combination of celebration and sorrow as we remember God's gift in Jesus Christ's death. This week and next are also special because we have Emily's Mom visiting with us. This is her first trip to the islands and she is loving it - especially her grandson (not to mention how much we enjoy the extra helping hands)! April has a lot in store for us, including the Flunker grandparents visit, another class and another team.

We are really loving ministering here - even as I write this Emily is in the other room discipling one of the local girls in what it means to live as a Christian. We find daily reminders of the need for Christian examples and resources inside and outside the churches. I was also recently reminded of an attitude of gratitude to those of you who support us. It is wholly our prayer that as you give to us and this ministry in the Caribbean, that you may do so as an act of worship to our Lord. For all He does in and through you - we give thanks!

Pray for community's involvement and cooperation with renovating our clinic
Pray for our ministry's missionaries as many are in process of raising support
Pray for the students on all islands, especially that their commitment and discipline in the Word would yield the benefits of internal transformation and external boldness to address error in the church
