July Newsletter '08

Greetings,

This is it, what we've been working and waiting for - serving on the mission field full-time. In this month's edition you can catch our move to Eleuthera and the second half of our Alaska Trip with the Fredericks.

Missionaries in Transit

Our transition to the mission field began with our complicated move (can't imagine how folks with more/older kids move). We boxed up all our things and with help from our pastor's family and friends we loaded it all into a U-haul and headed for Fort Lauderdale. After 4 long days and some key help from our friend Tamaria and her church, we loaded everything on a container and flew on over. It was a long journey and it's been a long journey in the making, and we're very thankful for everyone who has helped us get this far.

Island Arrival

It's hard to believe that we're actually here. We have thankfully had a few years of preparation with the culture and ministry, yet living here is quite different than visiting. Perhaps my first impression from being here is the need for a intense dependence upon God for our ministry. As we prepared in Texas we could come up with ideal scenarios and plans for ministry, but when faced with reality and the difficulty of the real world, its a much more humbling experience.

We will have a few more weeks of transition before our container gets here and we work out our immigration papers, but we're already getting a bit settled. We've been working on a habitat house and our first team gets here on Monday. You can pray for us about the details in our transition and that we'd find our dependence for ministry in the Lord.

Update
The Lord has truly answered the prayers of our supporters because our trip to Eleuthera has been as uneventful and smooth as possible. All things considered, we've had a very positive experience. Micah has been such a trooper! He did get a little sick, but he's doing better now. We're also almost at full support, and we'll be making our last set of calls soon in case there anyone else who hasn't yet had a chance to give. Truly we have to give a humungous "Thank you" to our First Baptist Church Family for all the love, encouragement and support they've given us. We truly couldn't have gotten here without you!
