April Newsletter '08

Greetings,

It’s a birthday month! We’ve been extremely blessed to have been given our first baby boy, Micah James. Along with family visiting, and finishing seminary, the really big news is baby Micah!

The Main Event in April

We anticipated welcoming Micah into the world on April 11th. After 9 months of waiting, you get pretty anxious to have your little bundle of joy arrive on time, just ask Emily! So Emily’s mom flew down at the beginning of the month to help with the rigors and changes of adjusting life to a newborn, except the newborn didn’t want to be born. We tried all the starter medicine and Emily was showing no signs of advancing towards delivery.

So it was another week of waiting, and then into a second, at which time after a doctor’s visit the decision was made, we’d be having the baby on Wednesday the 23rd by cesarean. I got to be with Emily the entire time, and she was quite sedated, she didn’t even know they started the surgery until she heard his new born cries.

I can’t even describe the miracle of hearing his cries for the first time. It is the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced. Emily’s recovery started a little slow, but she progressed very strong once we were moved into our hospital room. We took Micah home on Saturday and we’re still trying to figure out the best sleeping arrangement for how to care for him. So far I take him late, then Emily feeds him through the night and then I get him again early in the morning.

We’d like to express our thankfulness to everyone who has sent gifts and cards, and who has prayed for us and a safe delivery. He truly is the most amazing blessing, and a joy of joys (even when he cries, I love hearing his little cry). I had some pictures up on the website early, and just about EVERYONE has been asking for more pictures so, now he’s got is own picture page, you can check it out HERE.

Update
Nothing can compare with celebrating the birth of our first son, but here are some of the other happenings in the Flunker household. First we got to spend about a month with Emily’s family; they were so wonderful and helpful the entire time.

Also, I’m officially done with 4 years of seminary (a feat, which in my opinion, warrants an entire article!). The Flunker Grandparents and Aunt Kari (we now have to describe everyone relative to Micah) will be coming down to Dallas for graduation. And, finally I’m heading to Eleuthera for the graduation of our 3rd class of students.
