August Newsletter '07

Greetings,

August has been a harder month than expected. There have been challenges and surprises in every aspect of our lives this month. You can read about the most exciting ones below!

Guess Who’s Having a Baby!!!

When I first met Emily, we talked about what we wanted to be when we grew up. She had it figured out, she absolutely knew that more than anything she wanted to be a “missionary and a mom.” Well, now we’re officially on our way towards both! On August 11th I walked in from doing the laundry to find Emily hysterically hyperventilating out of sheer shock – she was pregnant! After a couple of minutes we calmed down and got our bearings, and from there on out it’s been all excitement… well, mostly. For the record I was with the composure to begin with, but after it began to sink in that in 9ish months I am going to be a dad – yeah, that’s just didn’t compute.

It’s a huge transition to go from not being a parent to having one on the way, and I’ve been told that the first time shock is completely normal. I would have told anyone that I thought I was ready – I was as confident as ever that I was ready. I would say to myself, “I see all of our friends with kids – heck, I can do this!” But like my Dad has told me, “You’re never ready to have a kid.” Thankfully, I’m transitioning nicely, and am genuinely excited for the future. Emily is also transitioning and getting plenty of rest.

Update
There has been a lot of challenges with work and ministry lately. I’m not even exactly sure how to write about them. Suffice it to say that I’m learning more and more how Christians are often square in the crosshairs of the enemy’s schemes, and the reality of the curse is sometimes too real. I’ve viewed discouragement of every front, which helps remind me to Whom I am dependent, and how we are continually in need of redemption.

And wouldn’t you know it, but August is also when Emily and both headed back to school. That’s right unending syllabi and heaps of screaming kindergarteners all at our fingertips once again. It’s actually a bit comforting to reenter the familiar waters of the classroom and thus far it’s shaping up to be a great semester.

CMA continues to press on towards its calling, and though we’re yet removed from the ministry’s “front lines” there is a sense of anticipation that God will continue to open up new doors for discipleship and growth for our Bahamian brothers and sisters.

Ask me personally sometime and I’d love to share more with you about our journey.

Prayers and Praises
Praise that the Lord has blessed us with the anticipation of joy in Emily’s pregnancy
Praise for the Lord’s leading in life and another positive summer
Praise that our church is partnering with God in His mission and lives are being changed right before our eyes
We’re also thankful and give praise for our wonderful friends that we’ve made – Lord knows where we’d be without them

Please pray for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. We’ve done all we can do, and now it’s up to the Lord
Also please pray for wisdom and guidance for tough ministry decisions. It continually seems the more you know - the more you realize how much I don’t know
