Our Story

Emily and I met my sophomore year at Cedarville, her freshman year. We were both volunteering for a youth event where we were each responsible to operate games for the kids. After I arrived to my game location and set up I had nothing to do but wait for the kids, and lo and behold there was a pretty blonde girl with a football, setting up for her game. Looks intriguing I thought and I walked over to introduce myself.

We got to talking and discovered we both had a lot in common, so we kept on talking while playing catch in the student center. There’s not a lot I remember about that night, but one thing I can’t forget was when we got to talking about majors and how Emily didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life. I asked her, “Well, what do you just love to do – if you could do one thing for the rest of your life, no matter what it is, what would it be?”

As she threw the ball back to me she said, “I guess I’d be a missionary and a mom.” I caught the ball and paused. The male mind has a strange way of answering problems with the most logical conclusion, whether or not is the best. I held the ball and looked her straight in the eyes and said flatly, “Well, marry a missionary.” She asked me, “What’s your major?” I smirked and responded… “Missions.” The rest was history.

We became best friends all throughout college, never dated, but always did everything together. Finally, after graduation we were talking that both of us felt the Lord leading us to Eleuthera for ministry.

The light bulb finally lit up, and my best friend of 4 years started looking very attractive. We were married May 28 th, 05 in Akron OH, and have been following the Lord’s leading hand in hand ever since.
